New Fire College Building
The Fire College of New York is to have a building of its own. It will be a structure it can do with as it pleases. It can start a fire in it or throw water at it. The building will be the scene of more “fires” than any other structure in the metropolis. Fires will be started in the building for the sole purpose of being extinguished. The building will be five stories in height. It will be a miniature structure and will be erected on a part of the site of the old storehouse in the yard at fire headquarters in East Sixty-seventh street. It will be substantial for it will cost several thousand dollars. It will be built of terra cotta brick and will have an upto-date sprinkler system. On each side will be a light and air shaft running to the roof with a regular scuttle on top for ventilators. There will be windows on the sides, too. The building will have two compartments. It will be ready, not for occtlpancy, but for fires in a few months. It will be devoted exclusively to the fire college work and will be perhaps the only really fireproof structure in New York.
