New Fire Houses for N. Y. Suburbs

On January 12 Fire Commissioner Thomas J. Drennan of New York City requested the board of estimate for an appropriation of $200,000 for the construction of a new fire headquarters in Jamaica to house five companies, the chief of the battalion and the Queens telegraph bureau. Commissioner Drennan has also asked for $75,000 for the new fire house at Forest Hills, $30,000 for one for Queens village and $30,000 for a house at Bayside. The villages of Queens and Bay City now have volunteer companies, but it is the intention of the fire commissioners to extend the paid systems to these sections.

Chief Fred A. Leonard, of Taunton, Mass., was reelected head of the fire department in that city by a vote of 5 to 4 of the city council over Deputy Chief John M. Gallagher,
