NEW FIRE STATION AT KNOXVILLE.
A Knoxville, Tenn., corespondent writes that a new fire station has been opened at East Knoxville. It is up-to-date in every respect and is occupied by a new engine company of eight men On the first floor are a steamer M. E. Thompson, hose reel, the horses and other apparatus. The building is two-story, brick, 35 x 73. The second floor has four rooms, the sleepingroom, bathroom, storage-room and readingroom. All will be furnished in good style. The lot on which the building was erected gives the men plenty of room for a flower garden, and next year they will enter the “City Beautiful’’ contest and compete for the prize. The personnel of the company consists of Captain Jas. Huffaker, engineer, stoker, two drivers and three pipemen. The engine and reel are reserve machines that have been put into service until the city can realise on a bond issue of $30,000 recently passed by the council for the improvement of the fire .department. The strength of the fire department is now as follows: Engine companies, four; truck company; hose wagon company.
