The illustration herewith shows a group of Boston officials, accompanied by the inventor of the new American-La France hydrant thawing machine, Louis Ross of Newton, Mass., on the occasion of the testing of this apparatus, which was fully described in the issue of February 2. In the group from left to right will be seen Mr. Ross, the inventor, James Ryan, chief engineer of motor apparatus, B. F. D., Deputy Chief John O. Tabor, Chief Peter E. Walsh, and Fire Commissioner John R. Murphy.
