New Jersey Exempt Firemen’s Association
The annual convention of the New Jersey Exempt Firemen’s Association was held in Long Branch on May 21. President John Kennell opened the convention and invited Rev. John G. Lovell of the First Presbyterian church, to invoke the blessing, after which Mayor Bryant B. Newcomb was introduced, and welcomed the delegates to the city. President Kennell also made a brief address. The report of the executive committee showed 74 associations in good standing, although there are 83 on the roll. Keturns from 70 associations show a total membership of 4,450. The financial report showed a balance of $212.59 from last year, and receipts from dues and membership badges brought the amount on hand up to $819,50. After an expenditure of $523.10 there is a balance left of $236.40. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, John Kennell. of Passaic; secretary, H. G. Adams, Plainfield; treasurer, Nicholas Snyder, Trenton; statistician, J. J. O’Brien, Hoboken.
