New Jersey Firemen’s Fund
The fund of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association is now $1,500,397.23. Payments from the fund are distributed among 267 associations throughout the State. During the past year $96,519,82 was disbursed for relief of old volunteer firemen, their widows and families. There was transferred to the pension fund of paid fire departments in 15 cities the sum of $48,178.83. The Firemen’s Home, in Boonton. received an appropriation of $11,000, making a total of about $155,000 expended during the year. The balance of tlte income, above the expenditures, aggregates $73,375.68. This amount is about $21,000 less than the amount transferred the previous year, due to the increase of amounts expended for relief and appropriations to the pension funds. The demands upon the fund are growing, particularly so in the older fire departments of the State. At the annual convention of the association held recently at Atlantic City, Gen. Bird W. Spencer, of Passaic, was reelected president for the thirty-fifth time. Battalion Chief William Exall. of Newark, was reelected secretary and John J. Lane, of Summit, treasurer, with a long list of vice-presidents and other officials. Fully 1,200 delegates were in attendance.
