New Methods at Newark, N. J.

New methods of classifying the records of firemen of Newark, N. J., have been adopted. These records will have a bearing on promotions, as they will be sent to the State Civil Service Commission to be consulted when men are to be moved up. There will be three special classes. The first, to be known as Class A, will contain the names of those who have performed unusual work, and will form a roll of honor. Class B will embrace those who have made rescues or performed meritorious work at personal risk. Class C will contain the names of those who have rescues to their credit or meritorious work at no personal risk. A committee on credits will be appointed. All reports of meritorious work must be signed by the commandant, countersigned by the battalion chief and forwarded to the board and then referred to the committee on credits, which will have the deputy chief investigate them and report back.
