Deputy Chief Charles R. Kamprad was named chief of the St. Louis Fire Department in November, replacing retiring Chief Denis Broderick.

Kamprad, who is 52 years of age, joined the department in 1944, was promoted to captain in 1955, to battalion chief in 1965 and to deputy chief in 1971. In February 1974 he was named fire marshal and in August acting chief upon Broderick’s retirement.
