A new station to serve the north area of Los Angeles County and the Castaic Lake recreation area has been opened just below the Castaic Dam by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Station 149 will greatly increase fire protection and rescue service to the Castaic area -the dam is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct and is being developed as a recreation area.

Castaic is at the beginning of a more than 25-mile stretch of Interstate 5 which has little or no fire protection and has heavy truck and car traffic.

Station 149 will house an engine company and patrol unit and will also improve brush fire fighting response in the area.

The one-story station cost approximately $200,000.
