New Style Hose Carriage.
The new style hose carriage shown in the illustration was manufactured by the Gleaosn & Bailey Manufacturing Co., and is a handsome and attractive piece of apparatus. It weighs about 1200 pounds and carries 700 feet of two and one-half inch cotton rubber-lined hose. Its wheels are choice quality of G. & B. brand; the front four feet eight inches diameter and rear wheels four feet ten inches. The springs are steel elliptic. best quality and extra oil tempered, and the axles and reel heads are of the same careful construction; the latter being scalloped for the ventilation of hose. The frame is crane neck style, to allow of the turning of the carriage in its own length, and the reel drum is made of iron, operated by gear and winch handles, with an improved stop motion and Iriction roller behind. The tongue has nickel-plated crab, hold-back handles and is adjusted with pin, so it can be raised or removed with case, and the rope reel has nickel-plated heads and painted stop-paul, with chain. The outfit consists of one axe, nickel-plated, pig-head style, and crowbar, nickel-plated ; play pipe holders, tubular lanterns, side lamps, kerosene torches, swinging signal lamp, two-chime jingle bells. The work on this carriage is of the best description and the whole outfit is arranged for strength, symmetry and serviceability. There are several of these new style carriages now in commission in all parts of the country.
