New Water Supply for Gilbert
Reports from Gilbert, Minn., state that one of the results of a recent Supreme Court decision, which permits Gilbert to annex contiguous mining territory, thereby increasing the taxable wealth of the village, will be the installation of a new water supply, an improvement badly needed, as the present source of supply from the Genoa mine may become exhaused any time. Two plans are under consideration. One to pipe the supply from Ely Lake, and the other to sink a deep well. Village officials declared that only necessities, such as water improvements, etc., will be attempted in spite of the fact that the high court’s decision adds nearly 2,000 acres to the village limits and gives it an increase of $5,000,000 in taxable wealth.
