New Water Works System for Lehigh
Lehigh, Pa., will soon install a waterworks system. From its topography it has great advantages in the way of securing high pressure, as a water tower built on any of the surrounding hills will guarantee all the benefits of a high pressure pump. The pumping plant will be on the east side of the river, whence the water will be pumped to a reservoir or tank on the opposite side of the river. The motive power of the pumping machinery will he electrically generated in the same building with the water; thus the same engine that pumps the water will generate the power. As the pumping will take only a few hours each day to keep the reservoir tank full and a separate engine for pumping would be idle for the rest of the day, the proposed arrangement will be very economical.
