NEW WATERWORKS SYSTEM AT WEST SALEM.
A new waterworks system has been nearly completed at West Salem, Wis. A large reservoir, with 100,000 gals, capacity, suitable to meet all demands of the growing village for some years to come, is being installed on the crest of the hill a third of a mile south of the village limits and 175 ft. above the main street of the village. Water will be pumped from a well, already completed, into the reservoir and, with the pressure given by the altitude, will be forced through pipelines to all parts of the village. Rates have already been established by the village council on a reasonable basis. In residences the charge will be $5 per year, in barns $2, in stores and offices, $5, and in hotels $7 per tap. In addition to water in the houses there will be ample fire protection from numerous hydrants, which will be placed at frequent intervals along the streets. The installation of the water supply system in West Salem will cost the village $25,000, for which bonds have been issued. The property will be owned and operated by the village.
