New World Record Made at Iowa Meeting.
The Iowa State Firemen’s Association meeting, held in Davenport early in August, was notable for the records made by the men and horses of the paid departments that participated Three teams broke the world’s record made by the fast Sioux City team at Clinton last year. The Sioux City team, Paddy and Prince, broke their record of last year, fowering it from 1:15 to 1:13 3-5. The Clinton team did ‘t in 1:14 1-5, and Sioux City’s other team made third place with a record of 114 4-5 I he requirements of the race were that the teams should be in stalls, and the men in beds above the stalls, the same as in a fire-station At the sound of the gong the men were to slide to the floor, make the hitch, run half a mile, lay 100 ft. of hose and make a coupling.
Many volunteer companies from the lesser towns in the State participated, and a full program of races was run off.
