New York Buys South Bend Apparatus

The South Bend Motor Car Works recently received a contract for ten pieces of apparatus from the City of New York. This comprises seven hose wagons, 70 horse-power each, equipped with the regular New York standard turret pipe, and three combination wagons of the same horse-power rating, and equipped with double 35-gallon chemical tanks, hose bodies with a carrying capacity of twelve hundred feet of hose, and three hundred feet of chemical hose. All of the ten machines arc to he equipped with solid tires dual rear, and the regular South Bend Double Duty Chain Drive. This is the first order that the South Bend Motor Car Works has received from New York City, and the construe lion, power, durability and strength of the car throughout are said to be the reasons for the awarding of this contract. Recent deliveries of South Bend Motor Car Works include a 6-cylinder 95 horse-power combination for Three River, Mich. This machine is equipped with the old horse-drawn apparatus that has been in service in Three Rivers for twenty years. The car which has 38 x 7 pneumatic tires all around, and is capable of a speed of fifty miles per hour, was driven overland from South Bend to Three Rivers with members of the Board of Public Safety and the mayor of that city. A 4-cylinder 60 horse-power combination chemical and hosecar has also just been delivered to Greenfield, Ind This car is equipped with cushion demountable tires, and has a speed of 40 miles an hour.
