NEW YORK CITY PAID DEPARTMENT CELEBRATION.
The plan to celebrate, on June 12, the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the paid fire department in New York City is one which has the hearty approval of FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING and we are pleased to note, as appears elsewhere in this paper, that Fire Commissioner Robert Adamson has appointed a committee to carry out the arrangements for the celebration. This certainly ought to prove an interesting occasion on account of the great changes made in the methods of fire fighting, including that of our high pressure system, during the half century that paid fire service has been in operation. The parade to be held will show the evolution of the department in the fifty years and as such will afford not alone an illustration of the progress made in methods of fire extinguishment in the city but the remarkable growth and magnitude of the metropolis. There is no doubt from the names of the gentlemen selected to act on the committee that the celebration ought to prove not only very interesting but very successful.
