New York Fire Alarm System.
By means of a new fire alarm service, the fire department of New York on July 26, commenced a new system which will save a vast amount of energy that has been hitherto uselessly expended. The present system of sending a fire alarm to engine houses causes all the engines on one of six circuits to be ready with men and horses, although perhaps only three or four of them will go to the fire. Under the new system on a first alarm only those engines will be notified on a first alarm who would go to the fire on the first and second alarms. The new system was perfected by John C. Rennard, the electrical engineer in charge of the fire alarm telegraph bureau at fire headquarters
