New York Firemen Honor Their Dead

The annual memorial services for members, of the New York fire department, who died during the past year were held on June 1 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Moringside Heights. About six hundred members of the New York fire department attended the service. After assembling at Amsterdam Avenue and 113th St. they marched to Broadway and 110th St. and up Amsterdam Avenue to the cathedral. The service was conducted by Chaplain Joseph H. I vie and a sermon was preached by the Rev. Dr. Caleb R. Stetson, rector of Trinity Parish, New York. Ten comrades of the men died while in line of duty and twenty-seven died of natural causes during the year.

Fire Company’s Charges for Out of Town Service—The Rockford, Ill., fire department has issued a statement whereby it will charge $35 as a minimum fee for attending an out of town fire, and, if the apparatus is out for over one hour, a charge for each additional hour will be $25.
