Nigro Sworn In as New FDNY Commissioner

Daniel Nigro was sworn in as the new commissioner of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) yesterday at a ceremony in Brooklyn.

He replaces Sal Cassano, who had served as commissioner since 2010.

According to CBS, the new commissioner¬†pledged to diversify what he called the “greatest fire department in the world.”

Nigro, a department veteran of 32 years, is coming out of retirement after 12 years to take on the role. He takes the reins in the wake of a tumultuous period in the FDNY punctuated by a long-running discrimination lawsuit that was only settled this year.
