Nott Fire Engine Notes.
On July 15th the Nott Fire Engine company shipped to the city of Lorain, Ohio, one first size and one second size universal steam fire engine. It is expected that these engines will be tested about July 26th, and there will be a large crowd of visiting chiefs and commissioners to witness their working. This order for engines was placed with the company after a most thorough investigation by a special board of mechanical engineers selected by the Board of Public Safety of the city of Lorain, and after their inspection of the universal engine they inuneditely made a contract with the Nott F’irc Engine company. On July 9th, the city of Minneapolis, after wit nessing the test of the first size Lorain engine in the factory of the company, immediately purchased two universal first size engines. Chief Canterbury and Master Mechanic Hosea Tuttle were both greatly surprised at the wonderful working of the engine, and so expressed themselves. The first size engine was tested at a speed of over 450 revolutions per minute without vibration, thus making a record speed for a fire engine of its size.
