The city of Minneapolis has placed a contract with the Nott Fire Engine company for two firstsize universal fire engines, after a visit to the company’s factory and witnessing the demonstration of the first-size engine which was shipped to Lorain, Ohio. The city of Seattle, Wash., has also closed a contract for two third-size universal fire engines, after a most thorough investigation. These engines are expected to make some new records for the Pacific Coast for their size. The Nott Fire Engine company is shipping to the city of Wausau, Wis., a second-size engine. Records of the test will be printed in these columns later on. In addition to these sales the company has just shipped to the city of Racine, Wis., a rebuilt Clapp & Jones engine, which was equipped with the famous Spiral water tube boiler; also a rebuilt engine to the city of Horicon, Wis., containing the Spiral water tube boiler.

On May 17 the Nott Fire Engine company, of Minneapolis, Minn., delivered to Buffalo, N. Y., one second-size Universal steam fire engine, which went through a 2-hours’ test and was immediately accepted and put in service. This is the first Universal engine that has been delivered to the fire department of Buffalo. The test that this engine went through was the work of a first-size engine. The engine denupnstrated its high efficiency when it exceeded its rated capacity by 153 gal. of water per minute. The board of fire commissioners and the officers of the fire department, all expressed their satisfaction, and comments were freely made as to the steadiness of the operation of the engine. In St. Paul, Minn., the Nott company has recently installed a thirdsize Universal engine. The big first-size engine, which has been in service at headquarters. has been laid up for repairs, and the little third-size Universal engine has been substituted for it. The first-size engine, whose home has been at headquarters, was always equiped with two lines of hose, when at fire, each line equiped with 1%-in. nozzle. Since the thirdsize Universal engine has been placed at headquarters, it had a run of over two lines of hose, with 1¾-⅛. nozzle on each line, carrying 180 lb. water-pressure.
