NY Firefighters Pull Badly Burned Woman from Home

Volunteer firefighters in Stony Point (NY) pulled a badly burned woman, 62, from the second-floor apartment she inhabited. Officials suggested she may have become engulfed in flames while cooking.

Firefighters found the victim, Mary Minella, burned over 40 percent of her body and unconscious on Monday night. A rug also caught fire during the incident, and other areas of the apartment suffered some damage, mostly from smoke. The victim was found at the apartment’s front door, transported outside, and revived. A report on lohud.com indicated that she was in critical condition at an area hospital.

Two police offers suffered smoke inhalation during an unsuccesful rescue attempt early in the incident.
