Ossining Company 140 Years Old
The Ossining, N. Y., Fire Department boasts a ladder company with 140 years of service. The Washington Hook and Ladder Company is believed to be the first organized fire company in populous Westchester County on the northern border of New York City. It also may be the oldest volunteer fire company still on the job in New York State.
Under Chief Laurence Goble, the Ossining Fire Department includes 600 volunteers who operate six engine companies, two ladder companies and a fire police and emergency squad. The latter has a boat for Hudson River rescue calls in addition to an emergency truck.
