OTTAWA VOTERS FAVOR FILTRATION

The people of Ottawa, Canada, have gone on record as favoring filtration. In the recent election on the water question the filtration plant project was carried by a majority of 1,308. In all 7,544 people voted for Ottawa River water mechanically filtered as against a project to bring water from Thirty-one Mile Lake in the Gatineau district for which 6,236 votes were cast. The referendum was ordered by the Ontario Legislature which itself prepared the questions to be submitted. Whether or not this verdict will alter the views of the Provincial Board of Health is doubtful. That body strongly endorsed the Gatineau Lake as a source of supply. The people of Ottawa, on a separate ballot, declared themselves strongly in favor of the principle of an improved water supply by a vote of 11,291 to 1,568.
