Paralyzed Detroit Firefighter to Lose Health Benefits

Detroit (MI) firefighter Brendan Milewski, who was paralyzed after being injured in the line of duty, received a letter saying that his healthcare will be terminated as of January 1, 2014.

A report on myfoxdetroit.com (http://bit.ly/1dpjTXk) details how Detroit‘s bankruptcy is affecting those who gave their all to the ailing city.

Milewski, whose case was featured in the Detroit firefighter documentary BURN, injured his spine in a building collapse while at a fire call in 2010. He received health care through the city, but that will evidently be discontinued; the aforementioned letter said that if he doesn’t have another plan purchased by December 15th of this year, he will receive a $200 a month stipend to supplement the cost of purchasing his own health insurance.
