PASSAGE OF TWO-PLATOON LAW CREATES PROBLEMS IN WISCONSIN

With the adoption by the State Legislature of the two-platoon law for fire departments, some of the smaller cities in Wisconsin are struggling with the problem of carrying out the requirement. Additional men will be necessary, beginning January 1 next, and funds are not available. It is estimated that the cost of operating the departments will be materially increased. In Janesville, for example, Chief Con J. Murphy believes that ten additional men will be needed for the department now having twenty men, and he estimates the additional expense between $15,000 and $20,000.
