The annual report of the Pawtucket, R. I., Board of Public works, shows the total receipts of the board for water service during last year were $142,488.28,and the total expenses $118,676.50. The report speaks In complimentary terms of the lead lined iron pipe, which, it states has given great satisfaction. The use of meters continues to increase, 307 services having been supplied with them during last year. This makes the number of meters now in use 4704. The meters used are the Crown, Duplex, Empire, Gem, Met, Ninth, Horsey, Shedd, Union Rotary, Thompson, Trident and Worthington.
The statement, of the clerk of the sewer department shows that during the past year appropriations to the amount, of $147,580.36 have been made by the city council and credited to the general construction account, for the building of various sewers. Of this amount $.’5,500 lias been transferred to other accounts and $112,531.70 expended in purchase of material, and construction of sewers as is set forth in detail in report of city engineer. This leaves a balance of $20,490,50 to the credit of the general construction account. The appropriation for maintenance account of sewers amounts to $8,500. Of this sum $2,000 has been transferred to the credit of the city engineer’s do. partment and $0,247.03 has been expended in labor pay rolls and approved bills an account of care and maintenance leaving an unexpended balauce of $252.87.
