PENNSYLVANIA’S FIRE RECORD FOR OCTOBER.
The following is a list of fires which occurred in Pennsylvania during the month of October, 1884, in each of which the loss was $10,000 or over. They are arranged in alphabetical order and the locality and description given:
It will be seen by the above table that there were thirteen fires of this class, which occasioned a total loss of $889,600. If we allow the usual $roo, ooo for fires in which the loss was under $10,000 and those not reported, we will have a total fire waste for Pennsylvania during the month of $989,600—which is an increase of $40,600 over that for the preceding month, and a decrease of $618,200 in comparison with the loss for the month of October, 1883.
The fire waste during October in the United States and Canada aggregated nearly if not quite $10,000,000, while that of the same month last year was about $7,000,000. The fire losses in the United States and Canada during the past ten months of 1884 foot up a total of over $90,000,000, and is nearly $12,000,000 in excess of that for the corresponding ten months of the year 1883.— The United States Review.
