People of Xenia Invited to Discuss Water Question
An open discussion of the water works question was held in the city of Xenia, Ohio, lately, to which every man and woman in the city was invited. All Were desired to express their opinions, as the city commission does hot wish to take any steps in so important a matter as the suggested purchase of the water works system without full consultation with the citizens. The discussion was comprehensive in its scope, embracing such questions as the following, which were embodied in a questionnaire submitted to the meeting: Could the city save money under municipal ownership? What is the value of the present plant? What would be the cost of a new equipment? What would be the cost of an entirely new plant? If the people do not wish to give the sum asked by the water company and will not agree to a board of expert ahd disinterested appraisers, how Should the city proceed? The discussion led to no definite conclusion, as hohe was expected, but is thought to have clarified the subject in many minds to a degree that will have a decided influence in the election.
