Phoenix Fire Department Names First Female Chief

Phoenix native Kara Kalkbrenner has been selected to lead the Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department.

A report on azcentral.com (http://bit.ly/1EFHtKZ) detailed how Kalkbrenner first got interested in becoming a firefighter as well as the selection process.

She is the first woman to hold the position in the department. According to the report, only two other big cities with more than 40 fire stations and 1,000 members have female fire chiefs–San Fracisco and Austin.

Kalkbrenner has served as acting chief since Chief Bob Khan retired in February to care for his ailing father.
