Pittsburgh to Have New Alarm Equipment

The sum of $90,000 was provided in the latest bond issue passed in Pittsburgh, Pa., for the installation of a fire alarm headquarters equipment in the new fireproof City-County Building.

Chief William Bennett, of the fire department, intends to recommend that funds be provided in this year’s budget for four more pumpers, five ladder trucks and three fuel wagons. He says that the city needs much greater addition than that number, particularly when the hilly nature of many districts is taken into consideration. Safety Director Pritchard proposes to secure an ordinance establishing a permanent fire protection division as a part of the bureau of fire.
