POOR FIRE PROTECTION AT RIVERSIDE.
At the-recent annual banquet of the Riverside, Cal., fire department. Chief Schneider said that every one knew the department was far behind the time as regards fire protection, and asked what could be done, if one of the city’s largest and highest buildings should catch fire. The water pressure is poor; the hook and ladder truck is “a toy;” of hose there is only 2,900 feet. Nothing has been done for the department, except in the way of promises, for seven years.
