PROGRESS AT MONTGOMERY
During the past year several important improvements have been made to the waterworks of Montgomery, Ala. A 3,000-cu.-ft. compressor and an 8,000,000-gal Ion Allis-Chalmers engine have been added to the machinery of the department and, if the tests which are to be made are satisfactory, these improvements will result in a better service. The extension of the waterworks system is nearly completed, and mains have been laid in many sections of the city which were not formerly penetrated. A large number of connections have been made and the service is giving greater satisfaction to the citizens than ever before. It is, however, a matter of regret that the net receipts of this department during the past year arc not more nearly proportionate to the increased disbursements. This discrepancy is partly accounted for by $9,000 additional interest on bonds which the department has had to bear this past year. During the current fiscal year a decided increase in the receipts of the department is looked for.
