Promotions in Newark Department

Two fire captains have been promoted to the rank of battalion chief by the Fire Board of Newark, N. J., three lieutenants made captains and four firemen advanced to lieutenants. Captain George E. Lynch, of No. 6 Truck, and Captain Dennis Guidera, of No. 3 Truck, were made battalion chiefs to succeed Deputy Chiefs Matthew P. A. McDermitt and John J. Towey. The new battalion chiefs will receive an advance in salary from $1,600 to $2,000, the new captains from $1,400 to $1,000, and the promoted firemen from $1,800 to $1,400. The lieutenants who become company heads are Arthur M. Vanderstrcct, of No. 8 Truck; Andrew McNicliots, of No. 20 Engine, and James C. Springsitead, of No. 18 Engine. All the promotions took effect December 1, and the men advanced will be assigned to their new posts at the next meeting of the board. The lieutenants named are Frank Garrett. Jr., of No. 15 Engine; William H. Netschert. of No. 17 Engine: Daniel J. Spillane. of No, 4 Truck, and Adam Rothlein, of No. 6 Engine.
