Proposed Association of Fire Chiefs

Proposed Association of Fire Chiefs

Incorporation papers have been filed in Illinois, according to information received from State Fire Marshal John G. Gamber, for an association of fire chiefs, captains and lieutenants of the state. It is expected that a meeting will be held in the near future to organize the association. Its object, according to the fire marshal “is to promote an educational campaign for fire prevention among the fire department officials in the State of Illinois, calculated to benefit them in the performance of their duties, to mutually benefit and improve such officers through their co-operation, to engender a fraternal spirit among such officers, to improve the fire prevention service of Illinois, to provide for the recreation and entertainment of the members; to suggest and work toward legislative measures intended to improve on laws of Illinois appertaining to the prevention of fires. I think this practically covers all that we intend to accomplish. If we are successful in this I think we will have rendered a big service to the people of the State of Illinois. Several yrears ago I tried to plan for a mid-summer meeting of this kind, hut owing to the way appropriations are made to state departments, I was unable to finance this matter. As you will recall, the regular firemen’s association meetings of this state are generally held during the winter months of each year, and at several of the meetings where this matter was discussed informally, a great many of the officials felt that if a mid-summer meeting could be held that a good attendance might be had. I am. therefore, going to try this matter out this year under this new plan, and if successful, it will be continued.”
