PURE WATER FOR SPRINGFIELD.
For the future the water supplied to Springfield, Ohio, will not be distributed direct from Buck creek. It will first be filtered through a natural gravel bed filler about 2,000 feet in length. The new filtration basin is twenty feet wide and 100 feet long at the bottom. At top it is 175 feet long by sixty-two and one-half feet wide. The basin is located on the west side of Buck creek on part of the land surrounding the pump house, with its edge about too feet distant from the creek, where the never failing streams of water form the source of supply. The cost of the filler was $2,000. Its capacity is 150,000 gallons. With water in the creek at the present height the flow runs through the twenty-four-inch valve at tlte rate of two feet per second.
