READING FIRES IN 1906.
The twenty-first annual report of Chief Engineer George W. Miller of the Reading. Pa., fire department for the year 1906 shows that there were 189 alarms in that city, of which fiftynine were bell calls, 127, still calls and three, false calls. The loss of personal property was $39,421, and the loss of real estate, $39,585.50. There are at present 5,456 active firemen in the department, all volunteers.
