Reading Parade and Inspection on Labor Day
Chief G. W. Miller, of Reading, Pa., has arranged the following program for the annual parade and inspection of that department on Labor Day. The inspection will take place in the morning on Penn Square, the companies parading from 4th to 6th streets. In numerical order of the companies’ institution the firemen will slowly proceed at the signal of the usual one tap on the fire alarm bells. A new feature will be the test of the truck and steam companies to bring about a tower effect of fire fighting. The ladders of the truck will be hoisted and the hose carried to the top and a stream played. The test will take place at the river bank and will be witnessed by the members of council and the representatives of the local fire insurance companies. There will be exhibition tests of motor and other apparatus.
