Ready for a Fire.
A town meeting was held in Everett, Mass., the other evening, to consider the expediency of purchasing a Steam Fire Engine, a lot of land, and the erection of an engine house thereon. On the first proposition a long and spirited discussion ensued, the Town Hall being, as usual on these occasions, literally crammed with interested tax-payers. The estimated cost of the Steamer, without equipments, is $3,500. After a debate of one hour and a half, the previous question was called and carried, and the question was decided in the negative by a vote of 81 to 129. This, of course, killed the collateral proposition, relating to the erection of an engine house. And now Everett is all ready for a big fire and the sympathy of outsiders.
