Recommends Merging of Companies

The Public Utility Commission of New Jersey has recommended the merging of the Bergen Aqueduct Company, the Bergen Water Company and the Glen Rock Water Works, Inc. This was done in a report on the application of the three concerns for increased rates. The report said the application was plainly one to maintain the large earnings which the companies have enjoyed in past years and not necessarily emergency rates. It was further stated that they discriminated in the matter of charges to different consumers and examples of this were given. The companies will be allowed to file a new schedule of uniform rates applicable to all metered customers on a block system of rates. The first block shall provide for the highest of these rates ; the next block, of consumption of water in excess of that provided for in the first block to be charged for at a reasonably lower rate, and the third block, for a still lower rate, and that each customer shall pay for the water used in each block at the rate for that block.
