Reducing: Number of New York Fires
Fire Commissioner Johnson wrote Mayor Caynor that there had been 2,287 fires in New York in January and February as compared with 3,293 a year ago.
“It is the greatest reduction that has ever taken place in the same length of time,” said the commissioner. “I think it is due to our fight against arson.”
The mayor replied: “Your letter showing the decrease in the number of fires is very gratifying. Keep up the good work.”
Taunton, Mass., is soon to buy a motor car for the chief.
