Report: New Boston Fire Commissioner Named

The Boston Globe reports that longtime Boston Deputy Chief Joseph E. Finn will succeed Roderick J. Fraser Jr. as fire commissioner.

Sources told the paper that Finn, who was hailed for his actions during the March Back Bay fire that killed two firefighters, is expected to be announced at a morning news conference.

Finn, a Quincy resident and former Marine, has been a member of the Boston Fire Department since October 1984 and rose through the ranks to become deputy fire chief in 2001. He is in charge of all fireground operations, hazardous materials, and technical rescue in Division One.
