The New York Post reported on the case of a probationary firefighter in New York City who apparently is reluctant to go inside burning buildings.
The report (http://bit.ly/1HzacYe) claims that Michael D. Johnson of Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Engine Co. 257 in Canarsie, Brooklyn, has managed to evade the smoke and flames several times since his arrival last year.
The report said that, during a three-alarm fire on April 2, Johnson’s captain radioed a Mayday call after finding that the probie was missing on the fireground. A source told that paper that Johnson said he had returned to the apparatus to refill his air tank.
The report comes on the heels of several other controversies in the department: the graduation of a female firefighter who was unable to pass the FDNY’s stringent physical exam and a report that claimed the department was lowering its fitness requirements.
