Reserve Fund Created Out of Earnings
The water works department of Tarentum, Pa., is to have a reserve fund in its treasury to be used in replacing machinery and equipment worn out. This has been authorized by the city council and the plan is to charge one cent to this fund for every kilowatt hour of electricity generated at the plant. It is said that if this rule had gone into effect in 1923 about $20,000 would have been set aside by now. It is probable that this amount or more will be added to the fund each year. According to Mr. Henry, the municipal plant pumped 252,000 000 gallons of water last year and that 129.000,000 was paid for, meaning a nearly 50 per cent. loss. Meters will be read in different months in each ward hereafter.
