RESIGNATION OF CHIEF SWENIE.
A special dispatch to FIRE AND WATER dated Chicago, June 10, states that “Chief Dennis J. Swenie, of this city’s Are department, has sent in his resignation as chief, but will remain in charge of affairs for two weeks or so, pending the selection and appointment of his successor. The subject has been under discussion for so long that the announcement will cause but little surprise. Chief Swenie has been with the department for over fifty years, and is held to be one of the best firemen in the world. His growing age, however, has been a handicap, and the idea is to appoint a younger man to the office. Who his successor will be can only be guessed at.”
