Robert W. Hunt & Company
Robert W. Hunt & Company, engineers, with headquarters in Chicago, maintain branch offices in the principal cities in the different sections of the country with fully equipped laboratories for making all chemical and physical tests. Besides their skilled specialists in the general engineering field they maintain trained inspectors at the principal steel mills, shops, foundries and cement plants throughout the country. Of special interest to the fire and water engineers will be the fact of this company’s preparedness for making careful and thorough inspection of cast iron and steel riveted pipe during manufacture and before shipment from the foundries. It is believed _by many that the tests made on pipe after being laid in the ground are not sufficient to develop any latent defects which may necessitate the opening later of the line. Robert W. Hunt & Company’s pipe inspectors are familiar with the conditions existing at the various foundries and with the specifications and grades of pipe and have had years of experience in inspecting pipe for their numerous clients. The company issues several useful booklets, one of which outlines the services of their engineering division and describes their facilities and equipment for ascertaining the efficiency of operation in power plants and for making duty tests and reports of pumps and engines according to the rules of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Four other booklets describe their method of inspection and contain the standard specifications adopted by the American Society for Testing Materials* these include cement and concrete, paving brick, highway bridges and creosoted timbers, all of which are sent on request.
