In a quiet way a very successful firm is carrying on the manufacture of fire apparatus in Rochester, N. Y. It is not many years ago since A. F. & S. C. Stewart first decided to add a fire department branch to their already large business. The grade of work they turned out placed the firm in the front rank among manufacturers of this special class of rolling stock, and soon many cities and towns were equipped with Stewart wagons and buggies. Their hose wagons are rec ognised as samples of the best and most attractive that can be built, while the buggies for the use of chiefs are certainly among the most desirable to he found anywhere. These latter are especially adapted for severe service, having only the highest class of forged ironwork in their construction. The firm has just delivered hose wagons to Hyde Park. N. Y.; Washington and Hastings-upon-Hudson. N. Y. It has also Hosed contracts for a hose wagon for Canandaigua, N. Y.,.a hook and ladder truck for Bainbridge. N. Y., and fire chiefs’ buggies for Stamford, Conn., and Battle Creek. Mich.

The Evanston. Ill., firemen added $1,200 to their benevolent association by an entertainment.
