Roger Boyle Appointed Chief Engineer of Jersey City Fire Department

The Jersey City. N. J., Commission on Thursday, January 7. promoted Battalion Chief Roger Boyle to the position of assistant chief and then appointed him to the post of chief engineer of the fire department. The position of battalion chief was created in 1892. Since last May Chief Boyle has been acting assistant chief and upon the resignation of Chief John Conway, late in December, he became acting chief of department. Chief Boyle passed the civil service examination, held about a month ago, for assistant chief with a percentage of 94.17 and headed the eligible list. Battalion Chief William H. Kern was promoted to assistant chief.
