Salaries Increased for Bridgeport Firemen

Advances in pay for the members of the Bridgeport, Conn., fire department averaging about twenty per cent. have been authorized by the members of the Board of Aldermen of Bridgeport. With the chief engineer’s salary to be $5,000 per annum and the third grade men receiving $1,800, the firemen in Bridgeport will have a better chance to combat the high cost of living. The new salary increases which go into effect on April 1, 1920, are as follows:

Chief engineer, $5,000; assistant chief, $3,000; clerk with rank of assistant chief, $3,000; superintendent of machinery, $3,250; superintendent of fire alarm telegraph, $3,250; captains, $2,700; assistant superintendent of machinery, $2,700; assistant superintendent of fire alarm telegraph. $2,700; department carpenter, $2,700; department mason, $2,700; department painter, $2,700; lieutenants, $2,250; engineers, $2,250; chief’s drivers, $2,250; grade A men, $2,000; grade B men, $1,900; grade C men, $1,800.
