Santa Barbara Brush Fire Costs $6 Million
Brush fires which swept areas around Santa Barbara in southern California and sections of Napa and Sonoma Counties in northern California last September inflicted an estimated $6 million in insured losses, according to the National Board of Fire Underwriters.
The NBFU said $4 1/2 million would probably be the insured loss in Santa Barbara County and $1 1/2 million in the area north of San Francisco. The loss estimates include actual structural losses, contents and such factors as additional living expenses paid under certain policies. Public officials in Santa Barbara County have preliminary surveys indicating that some 80 total losses were sustained in their area, many of them very expensive dwellings.
